Iran, Azerbaijan stress expanding cooperation in maritime transport

The officials of the Ports and Maritime Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Advanced Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan emphasized the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of maritime transport.

Iran PressAsia: The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Baku, Seyed Abbas Mousavi, described the Caspian Sea as a sea of peace, good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation in this virtual meeting on Monday. 

He added: "Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as two littoral states of the Caspian Sea, have many religious, cultural and historical common roots, and the Caspian Sea has provided countless capacities and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries."

Mousavi considered cooperation in the affairs of ports and maritime transport as one of the most important fields of cooperation and development of relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan. He said that in order to achieve the desired result, the efforts of the two countries in cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, shipping, fishing, tourism, and marine sciences should be multiplied.

The online meeting was chaired by Khosrow Sarai, Director General of Transit, Logistics and Agreements of the Ports and Maritime Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Wamik Rahimov, Head of the Shipping Department of the State Maritime Institute of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Advanced Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Examining some current issues of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of port and preparing a draft of some documents for the expansion of future maritime cooperation were among the topics discussed at the meeting.
