Astara (IP) - Astara customs saw a 63% increase in goods exchange with Azerbaijan, says the Director General of Iran's Northern Railways.

Iran PressIran news: The Director General of Iran's Northern Railways Gholam-Hossein Valadi has reported increased exports, imports, and transit cargo at the Astara border terminal.

As of July 2023, the Astara border terminal with the Republic of Azerbaijan has exchanged 226 thousand tons of goods. This depicts a growth of over 63% compared to the same period last year, according to Valadi.

He noted that the amount of goods transported by rail during the first four months of the current year was 69,455 tons. This represents a significant increase of approximately 114% compared to last year when only 32,420 tons were transported.

As per the Director General of Iran's Northern Railways, over 68,000 tons of goods have been exported from the Astara border terminal in the first four months of this year. Additionally, approximately 88,000 tons of goods have been in transit.

Valadi stated that Iran's Astara border terminal railway plays a significant role in exporting citrus fruits, cement, chemicals, tiles, and food to the Republic of Azerbaijan. Additionally, the railway line facilitates the transit and import of crucial items such as wood, timber, corn, and lentils.
