Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, in his weekly press conference on Monday, said that the Foreign Ministry appointed Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani as a special envoy to handle Syrian affairs, highlighting the strategic importance of the region amidst ongoing geopolitical changes.

Iran Press/Iran news: Attending weekly press conference and in response to Iran Press, Esmaeil Baghaei said: "Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has made this strategic move in response to the evolving situation in Syria."

He added: "The appointment of Raouf Sheibani, a seasoned diplomat with prior experience as ambassador to Syria, Lebanon, and Tunisia, underscores Iran's commitment to maintaining influence in the region."

Baghaei emphasized that Syria holds a pivotal role in West Asia, and Iran's policy is geared towards ensuring the country's territorial integrity and supporting the Syrian people's right to self-determination without external interference. This decision comes at a time when Syria faces significant political and security challenges following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad by rebel forces.
