Iran's ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi discussed coordination and arrangements for organising the Arbaeen ceremony in the best possible way with Iraqi President Barham Saleh.
Presenting a report on the joint preparations and coordination between Iran and Iraq for the Arbaeen mourning ceremony this year, he said that this year's Arbaeen ceremony is expected to be held gloriously, just as in previous years.
According to an Iran Press report, he also briefed President Saleh on the implementation of agreements already signed during President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Iraq last March.
The Iraqi president and Iran's ambassador to Baghdad also discussed bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.
The Arbaeen Pilgrimage is the world's largest annual public gathering that is held every year in Karbala, Iraq at the end of the 40-day mourning period following Ashura, the religious ritual for the commemoration of the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny) and the third Shia Imam, Hossein ibn Ali in 680 AD.
Anticipating Arbaeen, or the fortieth day of the martyrdom, the pilgrims make their journey to Karbala on foot where Imam Hossein (PBUH) and his companions were martyred and beheaded by the army of tyrant Yazid in the battle of Karbala.
