Iran Press/Middle East: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for political affairs, Abbas Araghchi arrived in Baghdad on Monday morning at the invitation of his Iraqi counterpart Nazar al-Khairullah.
In a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister, Adil Abdul-Mahdi, today (25 February 2019), which was attended by Iranian ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi, and Araghchi’s accompanying delegation, the two sides discussed the latest status of bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to improve it, Iran Press reported.
Araghchi extended the warm greetings of the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei, as well as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, to the Iraqi prime minister.
The Iranian delegation is scheduled to take part at a joint political committee meeting, chaired by Araghchi and his Iraqi counterpart Nazar al-Khairullah in a bid to review the latest developments of bilateral ties.
Currently, the political and economic relations between Iran and Iraq are at an excellent level, and Iraq imports natural gas for its power plants from Iran.
Iran is Iraq's top trading partner, with the volume of Tehran-Baghdad trade reaching about $12 billion, according to Iraqi officials. 101/205/213
