Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraq said that Tehran has decisively started reconstructing neighboring Muslim country of Iraq.

Iran Press/Middle East:  Iraj Masjedi reiterated that Iran’s participation in the reconstruction of Iraq has started seriously and Tehran is fully determined to take a giant step in this regard.

As the Islamic Republic of Iran has stood by Iraqi people and government in the fight against terrorism, it [Iran] is also determined in the reconstruction of cities hit by ISIL, Masjedi added, Mehr News Agency reported.

No one can create a rift between the two nations of Iran and Iraq, he said, adding, Iranian companies initiated reconstructing and strengthening infrastructures in Iraq and this trend would be continued seriously.

Masjedi pointed to the recent trip of Iraqi Minister of Electricity Louay al-Khateeb to Tehran and added, according to these agreements made between the two parties, shortage in Iraqi’s electricity would be completely removed within the next three to four years.

In this regard, some councilors in Iraqi Balad city appreciated unsparing support of the Islamic Republic of Iran and called for more economic cooperation and presence of Iranian companies in this city.

Earlier on February 9, the Iraqi parliament speaker said that Iraqi officials have always been emphasizing that Baghdad opposes the US sanctions against Iran and any policy of sanctioning nations.

Muhammad al-Halbusi also called improvement of relations between Iran and Iraq in all fields.

Currently, Iran and Iraq have extensive political and trade ties with each other. Iraq depends on Iran's natural gas imports for electricity generation.

Iran is currently Iraq's top trading partner, with the volume of Tehran-Baghdad trade reaching about $12 billion, according to Iraqi officials.

The two countries are currently working on the supply of Iranian natural gas to the Sadr neighborhood of Baghdad, and al-Mansuriya power plants through a 270-kilometer pipeline and to Basra near the Iranian border via a separate pipeline.105/203
