Representatives of Iran and Russia discussed the fight against drug trafficking on the sidelines of the 67th session of the Anti-Narcotics Commission in Vienna.

Iran PressEurope: Eskandar Momeni, Iran's Secretary General of Drug Control Headquarters, who has traveled to Austria at the head of a delegation, met and talked with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.

In this meeting, the two sides exchanged views on effective cooperation in the fight against drugs internationally.

The Iranian representative also suggested that the issue of compiling and implementing a comprehensive document on cooperation between the two countries in various areas of combating narcotics should be put on the two countries' agenda.

Despite the sanctions, Iran has the highest number of drug seizures in the world - more than 1,000 tons of narcotics per year – and has suffered more than 12,000 martyrs and injured.

The UN has named Iran a flag bearer in the fight against narcotics.
