Farzaneh Sadegh, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran, will meet with Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Minister of Transport of Qatar, during a one-day visit to Doha on Tuesday.

Why it matters:

The visit is considered an important step in strengthening economic and transport relations between Iran and Qatar and can help develop transport infrastructure and increase trade exchanges between the two countries. 

 

The big picture:

Three months ago, an MoU was signed between the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran and the Civil Aviation Organization of Qatar. After signing the MoU, the parties discussed and exchanged views on the processes of removing operational barriers between the two countries' airlines and ways to shore up transport cooperation.

 

Key points:

Iranian Roads Minister's visit will address the following pivots:

Increasing cooperation between Iran's Bushehr port and the ports of Qatar, and establishing new cargo and passenger shipping lines;

Signing the International Road Transport Agreement between the two countries;

Cooperation in the construction of the North-South, Ashgabat, and Turkey-Iran-Qatar corridors;

Reviewing cooperation in maritime transport.
