Tehran (IP) – Iran has issued a stern condemnation of recent comments made by Israel’s far-right Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who justified the starvation of two million Palestinians in Gaza. The Iranian government asserts that only "decisive and deterrent action" by the international community can compel Israel to adhere to international law.

Iran PressIran news: Nasser Kan’ani, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, described Smotrich’s statements as "heinous and horrific," calling them a public confession of the Israeli government’s intentions. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Kan’ani stressed that the global community must recognize that the Israeli regime will only comply with international norms if faced with substantial pressure and decisive action.

"The criminal Zionist regime knows no boundaries for its heinous crimes and measures," Kan’ani declared, emphasizing that Smotrich’s remarks warrant international legal prosecution.

Earlier this week, Smotrich sparked outrage by stating that blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza was “justified and moral,” even if it led to the starvation of millions of civilians in the besieged territory. His comments have drawn sharp rebuke globally, with Iranian officials pointing to these remarks as further evidence of Israel's genocidal policies towards Palestinians.

Iran has accused Israel of committing acts of genocide and mass murder in Gaza, citing the ongoing bombardment and blockade that has devastated the region over the past 10 months. According to Kan’ani, the international community, particularly the European Union, must move beyond verbal condemnations and take concrete actions to curb Israel's actions.

European leaders have expressed their disapproval of Smotrich’s remarks. Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy chief, condemned the comments on Wednesday, stating that "deliberate starvation of civilians is a war crime." German Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer also denounced the Israeli minister's statements as "completely unacceptable and outrageous," rejecting them "in the strongest possible terms."
