Speaking on Sunday in a meeting with a group of parliamentarians (members of the Majlis ), interior minister, Rahmani Fazli said: "Some of our neighbours are unable to control and manage their side of the border. In the past year alone, more than 700 Afghans who had tried to enter Iran illegally (without a valid passport and visa ) had been stopped at the border, and forced to return to their country. Many of them tried to enter Iran via other routes, and some of them succeeded. As far as drugs and narcotics are concerned, a similar state of affairs prevails.
In further remarks, Rahmani Fazli said: "Our eastern neighbours are unable to control their side of the border, and no doubt the honourable members of parliament are aware, America, Israel, and a number of regional countries are actively seeking to make our border region unsafe. They are arming and training various terrorist groups, but rest assured, Iran will remain safe and secure despite enemy efforts".
Commenting further , the interior minister said: "The enemies are not only trying to make our borders unsafe, they are actually exaggerating and 'hyping up' any security incidents which occur near the border. What we need today is unity and solidarity, and we must do our best to solve the problems faced by ordinary people."
