Tehran (IP) - The Chairman of Iran's Migration Organization says the negligence of the international community regarding the Afghan refugees in Iran will harm other countries, including European countries.

Iran PressIran News: Receiving Australia's Special Representative in Afghanistan's Affairs, Glenn Miles, in Tehran on Tuesday, Abdollah Mobini elaborated on the social and economic issues following the presence of Afghan refugees and displaced in Iran.

Mobini described the problems caused by the growing population of Afghan refugees as increasing and attributed it to the current problems in Afghanistan.

He lambasted the heavy cost of meeting the healthcare, medical, educational, and livelihood needs of the Afghan refugees, which is being burdened by the host, Iran.

The Iranian migration official predicted the presence of over 800,000 Afghan students in Iran's schools in the new educational year, estimating a budget of over 1 billion dollars needed to provide appropriate educational infrastructure for them.

Miles appreciated Iran's generous hosting of the Afghan refugees and said that during the past two years, the number of Afghan refugees in Iran has been on the rise due to the increase of instability in Afghanistan, which in turn has undoubtedly inflicted a high cost on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

For over four decades, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been hosting Afghan refugees, with currently 5 million of them living in Iran and enjoying the facilities available in the country.

Recent developments in Afghanistan caused a new wave of Afghan refugees influx to Iran; yet, despite the West's cruel sanctions on Iran and the lack of international assistance to host the migrants, the Islamic Republic made no obstacles to their entry, hosting the immigrants well.
