Iran Press/ Asia: Thousands of Shia Muslims in the Indian-controlled Kashmir area held mourning procession of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), despite pressure from Indian security forces.
The devotees at the ceremony carried decorated flags in the name of Imam Hussein (AS), his companions, and Islamic signs and symbols.
Pictures of the late Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, are also on display at the ceremony.
Arbaeen marks the 40th day of martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and 72 of his companions in 680 AD in a land known today as Iraq after they refused to pledge allegiance to the tyrant Yazid.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias march toward Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH) is located, to perform mourning rites marking Arbaeen.
