Finnish Ambassador to Iran said 1,100 Afghan refugees would be transferred from Iran to Finland.

Iran PressIran News: The Islamic Republic of Iran has been hosting Afghan immigrants for more than forty years, and now at least 5 million live in Iran and enjoy the facilities available in the Islamic Republic of Iran as Iranian citizens.

Recent developments in Afghanistan have also led to a new wave of Afghan nationals flocking to Iran, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite economic hardships imposed by harsh sanctions and without international assistance, has never prevented their entry and has been a worthy host for these migrants.

According to Iran Press, "Finnish Ambassador to Iran Kari Kahilodoto on Wednesday on the sidelines of a field visit to the northeastern city of Torbat-e Jamam, noting that more than 90 years of Finnish trade relations with Iran is a turning point in cooperation and constructive interaction between the two countries.

He added: "The Finnish government is grateful to the Islamic Republic of Iran for accepting foreign nationals and providing services to Afghan refugees in the new wave of migration to Iran."

The Finnish ambassador to Iran said that one of the largest non-governmental organizations in Finland had expressed its desire to provide services to Afghan refugees adding: "Accordingly, the Finnish government has accepted the admission of 1,100 new Afghan refugees living in Iran whose transfer process is to take place."

Kahilodoto also stated that the purpose of his visit to Khorasan and Torbat-e-Jam was to understand the problems of Afghan refugees living in Iran and to support the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran in assisting Afghan refugees and displaced persons.

The Finnish diplomat called for the practical cooperation of European organizations and countries with Iran in providing services to Afghan refugees, adding that the reception of refugees in Finland includes those who entered Iran last year with the fall of the Afghan government.
