Iran Press/West Asia: The plea comes amid the systematic targeting of medical infrastructure by Israeli forces, with the recent destruction of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza cited as the latest example.
In a statement released on Sunday, Hamas condemned genocide and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians and criticized the international community for its inaction. The movement called on the United Nations and other global institutions to uphold their commitments under international humanitarian law by safeguarding remaining healthcare centers and ensuring the delivery of medical supplies.
The statement also emphasized the need for international monitors to independently verify conditions on the ground and counter Israeli claims that hospitals are being exploited for military purposes.
Tragedy at Kamal Adwan Hospital
Munir Al Barsh, a senior official at Gaza's Ministry of Health, described the catastrophic aftermath of the attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital, which resulted in the deaths of at least 50 Palestinians, including patients and medical staff. He reported that Israeli forces had surrounded the facility before setting it ablaze, destroying critical infrastructure such as surgical wards, laboratories, and emergency rooms.
Israeli authorities, however, alleged that the hospital was being used by Hamas fighters, a claim Hamas has vehemently denied, labeling it baseless and unsubstantiated.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has voiced alarm over the escalating assault on healthcare facilities in Gaza, reiterating its call for immediate measures to restore the functionality of hospitals in the region. Hospitals in North Gaza must urgently be supported to resume operations, the WHO said in a statement on Saturday.
The Israeli aggression on Gaza’s medical infrastructure coincides with its intensified ground incursion in the north of the Strip. Humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate under a siege by the regime that has severely restricted aid deliveries to the territory’s 2.3 million residents.
