Iran Press/West Asia: In a statement released on Tuesday, Hamas criticized the PA's security crackdown, which has persisted for eight consecutive days. “The continuation of these operations is a full-scale crime that demands immediate public mobilization to break the siege and support the resistance fighters,” the statement declared.
Hamas accused the Palestinian Authority of ignoring calls to end the raids and instead supporting resistance groups that act as a “protective shield for the Palestinian people, their land, and their sanctities” against Israeli forces and settlers. The movement urged all Palestinian factions, civil groups, and human rights organizations to mobilize against actions serving the Israeli military's interests and undermining the resistance movement in the West Bank.
The PA's recent operations in Jenin began after the arrests of Ibrahim Tubasi and Imad Abu Al-Haija earlier this month. In response, the Jenin Battalion reportedly seized PA security vehicles as leverage to demand their release, escalating tensions in the camp. Clashes between PA forces and armed resistance groups ensued, adding to an already volatile situation.
Jenin and other cities in the northern West Bank, particularly Tulkarm, have become flashpoints for confrontations between resistance fighters and PA forces. These clashes come amid near-daily Israeli military incursions, violent settler attacks, and the ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 2023.
The PA has faced widespread criticism for its security coordination with Israel, with accusations of targeting individuals wanted by the Israeli military. This dynamic has further complicated the situation in the occupied West Bank, which has witnessed a surge in violence, including intensified Israeli aggressions and settler aggression.
