The governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Abdolnasser Hemmati, has stressed that US sanctions are a form of psychological warfare against Iran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking in an interview with Iran Press on Wednesday morning, after a cabinet meeting in Tehran, Abdolnasser Hemmati said, "I have said earlier that the US government has done whatever it could. Now they say that they sanctioned Iran's central bank under a new chapter."

"Of course the sanctions have created serious problems in our financial sector and fiscal relations with others but we have found other routes to circumvent [US] sanctions. We have trade without sanctions with our partners," he added.

He went on to say, "To me all those are propaganda. I was in Kuwait yesterday and heads of many central banks from countries in the region were there. We sat and talks to each other and I think that it is a psychological war and we are doing our own job. In the future, our financial and banking ties will go on with new methods, not the way that the US expects."

"At the moment we don’t have a serious problem because we did our best when they sanctioned us for the first time." Head of CBI  added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted that Iran has eliminated the US dollar from its commercial transactions and trade with many countries, including Turkey, Russia, China, India, and many others.

Hemmati pointedly added: "In our trade with Turkey we use the Rial and the Turkish Lira, in our trade with Russia we use the Rial and the Rouble, and so on and so forth."

The governor of the CBI also confirmed that imports of "luxury items have been restricted" and that there are no problems in the supply of essential everyday items. He said the Foreign Exchange market was calm, and that the Central Bank (CBI) was closely monitoring this market. 101/211
