Tehran (IP) - Iranian government spokesman, Ali Rabiei, speaking at his weekly press conference in Tehran on Wednesday emphasized that president Rouhani has gone to the United Nations in New York to defend Iran's interests and to tell the world that Iran will not surrender under threats, pressure and sanctions.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking at his weekly press conference in Tehran on Wednesday, Ali Rabiei said that president Rouhani was not even sure whether the New York trip would actually take place, but when he did set off to New York his main objective is to defend Iran's national interests, and he will certainly do this in his many meetings with world leaders and heads of states on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rabiei said: "if the United States returns to the JCPOA, and lifts all the sanctions against Iran, then it can negotiate with Iran along with other members of the 5+1 Group."

The government spokesman also said: "President Rouhani will present a new peace initiative at the United Nations General Assembly, which will be called "Strait of Hormuz peace initiative."

Rabiei also talked about elimination of the US dollar from trade transaction between Iran and other countries, saying Tehran, Moscow and Beijing had reached good agreements on elimination of dollar from trade transactions.

Rabiei pointedly added: "We can export crude oil to those countries from which we import goods. There are several mechanisms and schemes for eliminating the US dollar from commercial transactions and trade. It is good to see that a number of European countries are looking into the elimination of US dollar from their trade transactions."
