Tehran (IP) - Iran's Parliament Speaker in a meeting with his Syrian counterpart said the new government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the parliament have a special emphasis on developing relations, especially economic exchanges with the Syrian government.

Iran PressIran News: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met with Syrian Parliament Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh on Wednesday evening.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ghalibaf expressed satisfaction with the visit of the Syrian parliamentary delegation to Tehran and said: "The exchange of high-level political and parliamentary delegations between the two countries shows the depth of strategic relations between Tehran and Damascus."

He added: "Following last week's visit to Syria, I emphasize that the new government and parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran will have a new round of relations at a higher level with neighboring countries, especially Islamic countries, and you will see this in the near future."

Referring to the long-standing relations between the two countries, the Speaker of the Syrian Parliament emphasized: "The relations between the people and the Syrian government are very deep and this issue provides suitable grounds for the expansion of trade relations."

Sabbagh continued: "Iranian and Syrian parliaments have an important role in strengthening and expanding relations between the two countries, because the leaders of the two countries have a special emphasis on strengthening and deepening relations."

Also meeting with Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada on Wednesday evening, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf referred to the two countries' common policies against US unilateralism and said: "Cooperation between Iran and Nicaragua is necessary to counter and neutralize sanctions."

Condemning the US sanctions against Iran and Nicaragua, Ghalibaf stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries to counter and neutralize the sanctions and said: "Political and cultural cooperation between countries that have common views is greater."

Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Dennis Moncada also condemned the US sanctions and unilateral actions, adding: "We defend our honor and sovereignty despite the interventionist policies of some countries."
