Iran Press/Europe: The German police department announced in a statement that two officers were injured, one of them in critical condition when a suspicious package exploded in front of a police station on Thursday night.
The two police officers were on patrol at around 8:20 p.m. Thursday (local time) when a suspicious package exploded near the fence in front of the police station in the Wittenau district in northern Berlin.
According to a statement from the Berlin police department, the officers were sent to hospital for treatment for their injuries.
Meanwhile, five people across Germany have died in New Year's Eve fireworks incidents and one police officer was seriously injured.
Given the high number of injuries each year, as well as the pollution and noise that these fireworks cause, there has been much discussion about outlawing some fireworks.
