Iran Press/Iran news: Two weeks after the first visit to Southern Khuzestan flood-hit areas, Top commander of the elite IRGC Quds Force, Major General Ghasem Soleimani visited the Shadegan flood-hit city on Thursday.
Major General Soleimani visited the flood-hit areas of Shadegan city, talk with people and supervised the situation of floodwater. He also consulted with the local and provincial officials for managing flood-hit areas in the city, Iran Press reported.
Major General Soleimani attended in 'Crisis Committee' meeting with participation of Khuzestan governor, provincial and local officials to take the decision on ways to save the city from flood and management of the difficulties people faced after heavy rainfalls and flood.
In this meeting, officials decided to the evacuation of "Sarakhiyah" village because of the rising danger of flood and saving people's life and properties.
The highest level of alert was declared in Khuzestan province with the situation in Shadegan city and surrounding villages declared as critical.
With the arrival of General Soleimani to the Shadegan city, a group from Iraqi Popular forces or Hashd al-Shaabi arrived in Shadegan city for participation in aid and rescue operation and helping flood-hit people in Khuzestan province.
Shadegan located in the south of Khuzestan province and its famous International Wetlands' level of water is increased noticeably with the latest heavy rainfalls and floodwater.
Less than two weeks ago on 7 April, Major General Soleimani visited the Khuzestan province in the flood-hit city of Susangerd which was currently inundated by floodwaters.
The visit is aimed at reviewing the situation in Khuzestan province, and coordinating with officials so that 'mokeb' tents (Used in Arbaeen Pilgrimage) are used to accommodate flood-hit people in various regions of the province which are suffering from the previous floods or are in danger of fresh floods.
Authorities in Khuzestan ordered evacuations in many regions and cities include Shadegan and it's 26 villages.
Three major floods have hit Iran in the past two weeks with unprecedented rainfall, in a country which is mostly arid, hot and dry with normally little rainfall, and a country which has endured a decades-long drought until this year.
Exceptionally heavy rains since March 19 have flooded some 1,900 cities, towns, and villages, killing 76 people and causing hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of damage to Iranian agriculture, leaving aid agencies struggling to cope.
