Iran Press/Europe: Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on late Friday, Zarif said "the US miscalculated," noting that since the incident, thousands of Iraqis have taken to the streets to protest against the presence of foreign troops in their country.
Zarif on Friday in an exclusive interview with NBC News said the United States' cowardly assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, pushed Washington and Tehran very close to war.
The terrorist US forces assassinated General Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) or Hashed al-Sha’abi counterterrorism fighting force, and their companions by targeting them near Baghdad International Airport on Friday 3 January.
The IRGC shortly unleashed volleys of ballistic missiles at the US’s Ain al-Assad airbase in Iraq’s al-Anbar Province. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei later described the retaliatory strikes as “a powerful slap in the face for the United States.”
The 56th Munich Security Conference is currently being attended by leaders from 35 countries and will continue until Sunday.
