Conakry (IP) - The people of Guinea-Conakry ended 2024 grappling with a severe fuel crisis that has significantly disrupted transportation. As 2025 commenced, residents found it increasingly difficult to locate fuel in the capital, often waiting in long lines at gas stations to fill their vehicles.

In an interview with an IranPress reporter in Conakry, locals attributed the fuel crisis to an inefficient distribution system. Faya Milimono expressed concern, stating that Guinea is currently facing a serious fuel crisis. He noted that previously, the private sector managed fuel imports effectively, preventing such shortages.

Ibrahima Mbemba, a teacher residing in Conakry, described the situation as perilous and indicative of a collapsing state. He highlighted various issues plaguing the country, including scandals, embezzlement, kidnapping, insecurity, and now the added burden of a fuel crisis.

In response to the situation, the Guinean government has blamed adverse weather conditions for delays in fuel deliveries. They reported that a fuel ship was unable to dock at the port at the beginning of the new year.
