Iran PressIran news: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met with Mandla Mandela, the grandson of South Africa’s iconic anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, who is in Tehran to receive his award during the Islamic Human Rights Award ceremony.

The chief Iranian diplomat welcomed Mandela and expressed satisfaction with his trip to Iran as the grandson of Nelson Mandela. He also thanked him for exerting efforts to promote relations between the two countries and for providing generous support to the oppressed people of Palestine.

“To us, the positions of Nelson Mandela and those of the ruling African National Congress on Palestine are noteworthy,” he said.

Amirabdollahian also stressed the importance of setting up a parliamentary friendship group between the two countries, which, he said, have strong legislatures.

Mandla Mandela, in turn, expressed gratitude for the hospitability of Iranian officials.

He described Iran’s Islamic Revolution as a source of inspiration for the people of South Africa, saying, “The victory of the Islamic Revolution delighted Nelson Mandela during imprisonment under South Africa’s apartheid regime.”

“At the 52nd National Conference of the African National Congress (ANC), we called for relations with Israel to be downgraded. Within that framework, we voiced opposition, along with Algeria and a number of other African states, to the Zionist regime’s observer status at the African Union,” he said.

Mandela emphasized the significance of a firm, collective decision on the part of all Palestinian groups and NGOs in confronting the Zionist regime, which symbolizes apartheid.

He also called for the expansion of ties between the two countries.
