New York (IP) - The Iranian Foreign Minister said the Islamic Republic is determined to help fight against terrorism and extremism in Syria.

Iran PressAmerica: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remark in the meeting of Astana Talks' member states' FMs (Iran, Russia, Türkiye) held on the sidelines of the 78th meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York with the presence of the UN special representative for Syria Geir O. Pedersen.

Amir-Abdollahian recalled in the meeting the situation in Syria is as critical as before, part of which originates from the unilateral sanctions on the Syrian nation and looting their natural resources.

Stressing that Syria's reconstruction must not turn into a leverage of pressure on the country, Amir-Abdollahian noted that the issue of Syrian refugees requires the establishment of necessary infrastructure, including utilities.  He reiterated that the unilateral sanctions against Syria were against international law, humanitarian law, and the UN Charter and hindered humanitarian aid to the Syrian people and refugees.
