Iran Press/Iran news: At least two domes of the historic Octagon, built about ninety years ago during the first Pahlavi era, destroyed due to the fire and the volume of water used to fight the blaze.
As a result of the fire, a number of warehouses located on the northeastern side of Hassan Abad Square, and several stores burned or damaged, Iran Press reported.
The fire began at about 9:18 PM on Wednesday, July 26, from a warehouse, but quickly spread to other parts of the square, including its historic buildings.
The spokesperson for the Tehran ّFire Department said: "Seven fire stations and dozens of firefighters were called to the fire at Hassan Abad Square."
Firefighters battled with the fire that poured deep black smoke into the sky for nearly one hour.
There were no reports of any injuries.
