Iran Press/ Asia: At 4 o'clock in the morning on Monday, February 17th, 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 occurred (according to the US Seismological Center, 7.8), which caused a lot of damage in 10 southern provinces of this country.
The second major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter scale also occurred at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, which caused further damage.
In this earthquake, it was officially announced that more than 50,500 people lost their lives.
President Erdoğan announced on Tuesday that 55 thousand of local and foreign people who symbolize the struggle against the earthquake will be presented with the State Medal and Order of Outstanding Sacrifice.
“I want to thank you once again for your extraordinary efforts on behalf of my people,” Erdoğan said, “We now know our true friends. We will continue to express our gratitude to you in different ways. We will present medals to 55,000 people.”
Iran's rescue team was one of the teams that received the medal. Following the earthquakes, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) sent rescue teams to Turkey's Adıyaman and other areas to help, rescue people.
Pir Hossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, after receiving the medal, in an interview with IranPress reporter on the ground, said that according to the announcement of the head of the World Red Cross Federation, the Iranian Red Crescent Society is one of the top five in the world.
Kolivand noted that Iranian aid workers have played a selfless role in the process of providing aid to foreign victims in various countries, including Turkey, Syria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Referring to the timely presence of Iranian aid workers in the recent earthquake in Turkey, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society said: Among the hundred countries that provided aid in the Turkish earthquake, the Iranian Red Crescent Society was able to receive a plaque of sacrifice from the Turkish government.
Referring to the order of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to quickly provide relief to the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria, Kollivand added: While the Iranian Red Crescent Society was involved in providing relief to the earthquake victims in the city of Khoy city in the northwest of Iran, it quickly started sending a rescue team to the earthquake-affected areas of Turkey and Syria.
