Energy Min. emphasizes on Iran, Afghan economic cooperation as key to regional security

Tehran (IP) - During the meeting with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan, Iran’s Minister of Energy stated that increasing economic cooperation between the two countries is one of the important requirements for achieving sustainable development and regional security.

Iran PressIran news: According to a report by the Ministry of Energy on Sunday, Reza Ardakanian met with Deborah Lyons, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), to discuss the country's diverse needs and the great professional and economic potential of the Islamic Republic of Iran to contribute to the scientific, industrial and economic development of Afghanistan.

Ardakanian mentioned the specialized capacities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the possibility of cooperation and assistance to specialized organizations under the auspices of the United Nations, including UNAMA.

The Minister of Energy, as the Chairman of the Joint Economic Cooperation https://iranpress.com/search/AfghanistanCommission of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, emphasized the development of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, customs, economy, and other areas related to this commission.

Referring to the most important topics of Iran-Afghanistan economic cooperation and the role of this international organization in facilitating this cooperation, the President of UNAMA also expressed readiness about the vast capacities of this cooperation and the participation of the United Nations in facilitating joint cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided to continue the necessary coordination for the realization of the issues between the two sides through the Center for International Affairs of the Ministry of Energy, in order to accelerate and better guide the process of cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and UNAMA.

UNAMA is the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan.

Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of Afghanistan, recently emphasized the development of relations between the two countries during his visit to Tehran.
