Niamey (IP)- After the seven-day ultimatum of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the junta in Niger to leave power and return to the democratic government, the people of Niger held a massive rally.

Iran PressAfrica: The people of Niger gathered at the Général Seyni Countche Stadium in Niamey on Sunday evening and showed their unity against any possible military attack on Niger.

Satisfied with their country's political situation, the demonstrators emphasized standing up, resisting, and fighting against Western imperialism. They said they were ready to defend their country against possible military intervention.

Last week, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held an emergency meeting in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, demanding that power be handed back to the democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum by Sunday night at midnight (2300 GMT).

France and the United States also supported the West African countries towards Niger, but the people of Niger emphasized the withdrawal of the French and the US forces and the expulsion of the French ambassador from Niamey by holding various rallies in the past few days.
