The Iranian President, in his speech at the United Nations, emphasized that stopping apartheid in Palestine and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza are prerequisites for development and peace in the world and the region.

Iran PressAmerica: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered the remarks during his speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday night.

Pezeshkian added: "Strengthening the system of multilateralism to address challenges such as war, discrimination, poverty, and hunger should be the foundation of our collaborative efforts for the future.

The UN Secretary-General should submit a report on unilateral sanctions

He continued: "The Iranian government's national priorities include focusing on healthcare, public education, social welfare, and social security. They aim to create equal opportunities, reduce inequality, ensure fair income distribution, strengthen family institutions, alleviate poverty and discrimination, empower women and youth, and take advantage of favorable environmental conditions."

Pezeshkian added: "Achieving peace and development requires respecting the right of countries to develop, paying attention to development priorities and cultural characteristics, observing the principles of equity, and implementing the obligations of developed countries towards developing countries, the Iranian president continued. Unilateral sanctions have stopped the achievement of sustainable development goals and this fact should be included in any document prepared for the future.

Immediate Reforms in Governance, International Financial Institutions Needed

Pezeshkian added: "We are calling for immediate reforms in the governance structure of international financial institutions. These reforms should ensure that developing countries have a say in decision-making and norm-setting. We also need a fair and responsive structure to address the financial needs of these countries."

The Pact for Future and the Global Digital Pact should help reduce the digital divide between North and South, especially by transferring new technologies, building capacity, and removing obstacles.

He continued: "We believe that the equal and effective participation of countries in the global governance of the Internet and artificial intelligence, respecting the national laws of the countries and fighting monopolization is an undeniable necessity." We demand a world free of nuclear weapons and a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in West Asia without any preconditions.

Ending Israeli occupation and establishing a ceasefire in Gaza is a prerequisite for peace in the region

The Iranian president went on to say that the Islamic Republic wants a strong, united, safe and stable region in which the resources of the countries are used for synergy in the direction of economic and social progress and solving common problems.

The president added: "As a victim of terrorism, we have always been a pioneer in fighting against this sinister phenomenon and we are ready to cooperate with countries that seek to fight terrorism.
