The 10th meeting of the board of governors of the Regional Centre for Urban Water Management is being held in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Organized under the auspices of UNESCO, the meeting is attended by water and energy ministers and senior officials from 16 countries chaired by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Speaking as the keynote speaker as well as the chairman of the governing board, the Iranian Minister of Energy Ardakanian started explaining about the history of the formation of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM)  and said that Iran's center in Tehran is the very first regional center established in 2002 within 18 months with the cooperation of Iran's embassy in UNESCO, Iran's Foreign Ministry, and the support of many regional countries.

 The top Iranian official also said that Iran welcomes the new members in the third phase of the activity of the center including countries like  Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkey. 

The Minister of Energy also explained the philosophy behind the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) saying: "We have done things together and helped each other as well as inviting developing countries and research centers from different corners of the world come to this region and helping us tackle challenges we have in urban water management as well as wastewater management and resuing and many other issues".

Iran' stop Energy official went on to explain further that Iran has done many activities in Training and capacity building, Ardakanian also said that Iran's First Vice President Eshagh Jahangiri is going to attend the afternoon session of the 10th meeting of the board of governors of the Regional Centre for Urban Water Management.

Officials from Sri Lankan, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Oman, Syria, and Lebanon participated in the meeting.    104/205
