Iranian foreign minister 'Mohammad Javad Zarif' has emphasized that the world has changed and that the world cannot be viewed as just the West.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a speech at a conference on multilateralism in Iran's foreign policy, 'Mohammad Javad Zarif' said that multilateralism means that we have to accept two concepts. First, we have to accept that the world is not limited to just a certain geographical area.

Zarif added: "As I mentioned in my last book with Sajadpour and Mollaie, the 'Post Western World' doesn't mean that the West has no place in the world or that the world has turned into anti-West."

According to an Iran Press report, Zarif added: "The world today has changed. In the past, there was this mentality that everything happened in the West which means, all important events of the world first happened in the West, and Westerners decided what is important and what is not. This led to a mentality that the world is limited to one geographical area, namely the Western world."

Foreign minister Zarif reiterated: "This world doesn't exist anymore. We are now living in a Post-Western World. When I published my book in 2017, the theme of that year's  Munich security conference which I've just returned from, was the post-Western World Management. They did not copy from my book of course, but I want to mention that our words are no more a third-world slogan, but a reality which says that the West neither has a monopoly on development, nor a monopoly on important decision-making."

He said: "So, in such a world, it only makes sense to have a multilateral attitude."

Turning to unilateralism, Zarif said you cannot solve any of the world's problems by a unilateral approach. Indeed he said, even the two superpowers cannot solve the world's problems together. A comprehensive multilateral approach is needed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif said the United States has persisted with unilateralism for too long, and the Americans will find out very belatedly that a unilateral approach simply doesn't work. It will take them a very long time to reach that conclusion.

The one-day conference on multilateralism in Iran's foreign policy is being held in Tehran.
