Brazil supplies fuel to Iranian ships by court order

Two Iranian ships, carrying 66 and 50 tons of load respectively, started refueling in Brazil waters after a two-month delay, preparing to leave the Brazilian port of Paranagua for Iran.

Iran Press/America: The two ships were banned from refueling because of  US sanctions and the Brazilian state oil company, Petrobras's refusal to give them fuel.

However, an aware source announced on Saturday that with the High Court ruling in favor of the Iranian ships, the commercial vessels are now starting to refuel, Iran Press reported.

The carrier bulks belong to the Iranian company 'Safiran Payam Darya' (Sea Message Envoys) which had carried cargos to Brazil two months ago.

The two Iranian bulk carriers came to Brazil carrying urea and were expected to return home with corn, but Brazilian state oil firm Petrobras has refused to provide them with bunker fuel under the pretext of unilateral US sanctions.

Brazilian Chief Justice Dias Toffoli has overturned an injunction on Thursday that authorized state-run oil firm Petroleo Brasileiro SA to refrain from fuelling up the vessels.

On Jul. 24, Iran’s ambassador in Brasilia told Brazilian officials that they should be aware of consequences over refusing fuel to ships.

Brazil and Iran have a long good relation, but the policy of the newly elected president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, and his tendency toward establishing good relation with Israel and the United States affected the South American country's relations with Iran. 101/211/215
