In 1997, the president appointed a woman as vice president and from that time we have had women as vice presidents and also as ministers in the cabinet so there is no major obstacle to the appointment of women as ministers, Iran's Vice President in charge of women and family affairs, Masoumeh Ebtekar said.
Also, President Rouhani has decreed that 30 percent of the decision making posts in the government should be filled by women so that means that every organization has to work to attain that target, she added.
Iran's VP told Iran Press reporter: "We have been witnessing more and more women in major decision-making offices of the government. We have about 60 vice ministers or equivalent to vice minister now. We have 100 women as director generals in the provinces and the headquarters of every government office. "
"So it is a positive trend that is creating hope and optimism and I think it's very important both to include women's viewpoint in decision-making process, but also it's very important because it gives a sense of justice and equity and the fact that 41 percent of our government employees are women," She added.
So, naturally, about 30 percent of them could sit in decision making posts, Ebtekar said.
