The rescue operation continues at Lagos Street, Garki village area where the incident occurred.
Iran Press/ Africa: According to report gathered by Iran Press, almost 50 injured people were evacuated to hospital.The authorities are yet to react to the incident at the time or filing this report.
Iran Press reports that the Nigeria'’s capital Abuja and Lagos, centre of nation's commerce have recorded a series of building collapse in recent times which resulted in the lost of many lives and properties.
In an interview with Iran Press, Architect Shehu Hassan said negligence and corruption are the main reasons of buildings collapse in Nigeria.
"It's a very unfortunate incident which happened due to negligence and lack of proper consultations by mostly contractors and the private building clients. All they do is to avoid costs which in the end result in the lost of lives and properties."He said in Nigeria there are agencies that regulates act of buildings but people don't comply with rules."
Recently there was similar incident that happened in the Juma'a mosque in Zaria which is very unfortunate. That is the collapse of mosque which caused the lost of many lives. This is very unfortunate. The inhabitant of the mosque saw a crack which they neglected. If the mosque committee had consulted authorities or professionals in time or if they had made a consultation or seek for advice, they could have avoided such occurrences."
Meanwhile, the new minster of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Neyson Wike vows to demolish all illegal buildings and structures in the territory as part of efforts to restore the Abuja Master Plan.
The FCT minister announce the short, medium, and long-term plans to overhaul the FCT and reposition it among the best cities in the world. He said all the structures built illegally would be demolished.
