Iran Press/ Iran news: His remarks came in response to Iran Press question on the Doha peace talks' prospects with the United States.
Abdullah had an official meeting with Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian on Monday after a series of high profile meetings with senior Iranians officials, including President Rouhani.
During the meeting with Iran's Energy Minister Ardakanian, Abdullah stressed the importance of Afghans' absolute decision about their own destiny, saying Doha talks are an opportunity; however, its success depends on its will the two sides in the negotiations.
"Afghanistan believes that peace must be achieved and what is acceptable to Afghanistan is the preservation of the achievements of its people, and that the ownership of the peace process must be in the hands of the Afghans themselves," said the Chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR).
Speaking to IP, Abdullah Abdullah pointed out that although Afghan groups have shown resilience, the other party has unfortunately escalated the level of violence in Afghanistan.
The war has continued lately, and the Afghans call for changes simultaneously with the start of the country's peace talks, Abdullah highlighted.
He added that the two sides are in talks in Doha, noting that the international communities and regional countries have supported Afghanistan's peace movement.
Afghanistan peace realization must be based on the will of the absolute majority of Afghans. A dignified and enduring peace is something where all the people of Afghanistan are protected.
During the three-day visit, Abdullah Abdullah has met with Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, the Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif, and other senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Abdullah Abdullah has previously traveled to Pakistan and India to build a regional consensus to support the peace process. Talking with the Taliban in Doha can lead to a permanent end of the war.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed on Sunday Iran's support for the Afghan-led peace process.
Zarif's statement came in his meeting with Abdullah Abdullah in Iran's capital Tehran.
The intra-Afghan peace talks in Doha started in early September, months after the Taliban, and the United States signed an agreement in the Qatari capital on Feb. 29 over the withdrawal of all U.S. and NATO forces to end the war in Afghanistan.
