Tehran (IP) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Nasirzadeh has dismissed the deployment of the American THAAD missile defense system in Israeli-occupied territories, calling it part of a psychological warfare strategy.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, following a cabinet meeting, Nasirzadeh responded to questions about whether Iran’s missiles could penetrate the THAAD system, which the U.S. is expected to provide to Israel. He downplayed the significance of the deployment, stating, "The THAAD system is an anti-ballistic missile defense system, and it's not something new. It has been around before."

The defense minister further remarked, "We consider this more of a psychological tactic rather than a serious threat. There is no major issue."

Nasirzadeh also emphasized that threats from Israel are nothing new, asserting, "The Zionist regime has consistently issued such threats, but they have never amounted to anything substantial."

What is THAAD?

THAAD, short for Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense, is a U.S. missile defense system designed to intercept short, medium, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles both inside and outside Earth's atmosphere during their terminal phase (the final stage of flight, when the missile is descending toward its target).

Recently, the United States agreed to Israel’s request to deploy the THAAD system in the occupied territories.
