Iran Press/ Asia: Different reports have been spread globally over the past days about Kim Jong Un’s fragile health condition, while a source in the South Korean government called them “groundless” information.
On Monday, CNN reported that the United States is monitoring intelligence that Kim Jong Un is in grave danger after surgery, citing a U.S. official with direct knowledge.
Following this report, citing Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, Kyodo News Agency reported that Suga told a press conference on Tuesday, "We are usually trying to collect information and analyze developments surrounding North Korea with grave concern."
"We will work closely with the United States," the top government spokesman added.
Contrary to CNN reports, citing Cheong Wa Dae, the official residence of South Korea's president, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported on Thursday that South Korea's top security officials "confirmed" there's no unusual activity in North Korea in connection with media-driven speculation that leader Kim Jong-un may be seriously ill.
They checked what's going on in the secretive communist nation during their weekly session of the National Security Council (NSC) standing committee. They then "confirmed no unusual situations currently inside North Korea," Cheong Wa Dae said in a press statement.
In the meantime, Sputnik reported on Saturday that other unconfirmed reports, "attributed to senior party sources in Beijing", alleging that "an operation to insert a stent went wrong because the surgeon’s hands were shaking so badly".
On Saturday, Reuters reported that China has dispatched a team of medical doctors and officials to North Korea "to advise on" Kim. It quoted three unnamed people familiar with the situation.
North Korean media outlets have stayed mum on leader Kim Jong-un's whereabouts without putting out any reports on his public activity amid persisting speculation over his health.
