IP - The European Union welcomes the announced agreement on the resumption of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran and looks forward to its implementation.

Iran PressIran News: The EU in a statement announced that as both Saudi Arabia and Iran are central to the security of the region, the resumption of their bilateral relations can contribute to the stabilization of the region as a whole.

Promoting peace and stability and achieving de-escalation of tensions in the broader Middle East are key priorities for the EU.

The EU remains ready to engage with all actors in the region in a gradual and inclusive approach, and in full transparency.

At the end of the negotiations on Friday, March 10, 2023, a trilateral statement was signed between Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Saudi Arabia's National Security Advisor Musa'ed bin Muhammad al-Aiban, and the member of China's Political Bureau of Communist Party's Central Committee Wang Yi. 

Rear Admiral Shamkhani, Wang Yi, and Musa'ed bin Muhammad al-Aiban reached the agreement in China's Beijing during 5 days of negotiations from March 6 to 10.
