Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister criticized the positions of some European countries regarding the unrest in Iran and said that for some of the European authorities partisan goals are more important than national interests.

Iran PressIran News: Unrest and brawls were instigated under the pretext of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died due to a sudden heart attack in a police center in Tehran on Tuesday, September 13, after being taken there for violation of dress codes along with some other women.

In a telephone conversation on Friday, Iranian FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares talked about the issues of mutual interests and international topics.

Amir-Abdoahian said some of these European countries, particularly the US, UK, and France, failed to keep committed to the Iranian international nuclear agreement or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) after the US scrapped it and reimposed sanctions on Iran.

The initial nuclear deal signed in 2015 by Iran, the US, the UK, France, and Germany – as well as Russia, China, and the EU – involved Tehran agreeing to certain restrictions on its nuclear industry in exchange for easing economic sanctions and other incentives.

In 2018, however, it was torpedoed by the US under then-President Donald Trump, who withdrew from the agreement unilaterally, saying it was fundamentally flawed, reimposing sanctions on Iran under a 'Maximum Pressure' campaign.

He appreciated Spain for its condemnation of the terrorist attack in Shiraz, southern Iran.

Foreign Minister Albares, for his part, expressed the Spanish nation and government's sympathy with the people and government of Iran and stressed dialogue between the two countries.

He then asked for help in the release of two Spanish nationals arrested in the recent unrest in Iran.

In the recent unrest, the foreign-baked media, US politicians, and some European leaders spared no effort to exploit the pretext in support of the rioters in the name of the Iranians. At the same time, millions of people in Iran came out to condemn the rioters and support the Islamic Republic.
