IP – One of the new achievements of the IRGC Ground Force is the Me'raj-1 reconnaissance drone, which was exhibited in November 2020 in Tehran.

Iran PressIran News: Previously, in July 2020, the drone was unveiled in the presence of the IRGC Chief-Commander and IRGC Ground Force Commander.

Some sources claim that this drone was designed and built with the inspiration of the American Aerosonde UAV design.

Specifications & Features

With its 10-liter fuel tank, the Me'raj-1 UAV can perform various missions and fly at a speed of 140 km up to an altitude of 12,000 feet. Its weight is 35 kg and its take-off weight is 33 kg; it can carry a cargo weighing 5 kg. Its range of sending and receiving data is estimated to be around 150 km. The main task of this UAV is reconnaissance in operational areas. It has a 3.6-meter wingspan, over 10 hours' flight duration, and a 1,000 km flight range.

Me'raj-1 is installed on a van launcher to take off and the UAV engine is turned on in the meantime. After the car reaches the desired speed and the drone's engine gets enough power to take off, the drone separates from the car and flies. Its landing method is belly landing; hence, it uses a retractable elevator camera in the fuselage, which prevents it from being damaged during landing. Using this type of launcher allows the drone to fly over any road or highway without needing a special runway for landing and take-off.

Me'raj-1 is a tactical UAV with a camera for reconnaissance missions, especially for monitoring borders and fighting with terrorist outfits.
