The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia, said that any tension in the region would be an excuse for the presence and intervention of extra-regional countries, which would not be beneficial.

Iran PressAsia: Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, who is on an official visit to Yerevan, met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday evening, discussing bilateral, regional, and international issues.

Shamkhani considered reducing tension, maintaining regional security, and increasing collective cooperation without the interference of foreign powers among the most urgent needs of the region to achieve stability and progress.

Emphasizing the need to resolve existing differences between the countries of the region through dialogue and avoiding violence, Shamkhani said, "Any tension in the region will be an excuse for the presence and intervention of extra-regional countries, which will not be beneficial."

He expressed his satisfaction with the favorable level of political relations between them, and said: "Considering the will of the leaders of the two countries to comprehensively expand relations, the level of economic cooperation should also increase."

Shamkhani said that the full implementation of the Tehran-Yerevan agreements was important and emphasized the completion of joint projects between the two countries as soon as possible.

He said, "Activation of the great capacities of cooperation between the two countries requires special attention and the realization of these capacities will strengthen the existing links between the two countries."

For his part, the Armenian Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the meeting and considered the cooperation between the two countries as good and progressing.

Pashinyan emphasized the need for further development of Tehran-Yerevan relations in all fields and welcomed the participation of Iranian companies in the infrastructure projects of his country.  He stated: "We are ready to raise the level of bilateral cooperation based on providing the interests and welfare of the peoples of Iran and Armenia."
