FM Zarif:
Iranian FM meets with Chinese representative for Afghanistan

Tehran (IP) - Iranian foreign minister reiterated Iran's support for the coordinating council for the peaceful transfer of power in Afghanistan, aiming at preventing any escalation of violence and war.

Iran PressIran news: During today's meeting between Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Chinese Foreign Ministry Special Envoy for Afghanistan Yue Xiao Yong, views of the two countries and the latest developments in Afghanistan were discussed.

At the beginning of the meeting, Zarif congratulated the 50th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries and expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for providing the COVID vaccine to Iran.

Explaining Iran's views on the recent developments in Afghanistan, he stressed the Islamic Republic's support for the coordinating council for the peaceful transfer of power in Afghanistan, aiming at preventing any escalation of violence and war.

He also considered the issue of IDPs in the recent developments in Afghanistan and their influx to neighboring countries as one of the crucial issues and stated that the matter needs serious attention, especially given the difficult coronavirus conditions.

Congratulating on the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the political relations between the two countries, Yue Xiao Yong described the strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields as important and explained his country's view on the developments in Afghanistan.

He stressed the need for cooperation between the regional countries, especially Afghanistan's neighbors.
