Iran warns IPU against recognizing deposed Yemeni gov's parliament

Tehran (IP) - Iran’s parliamentary delegation warned the Inter-Parliamentary Union against recognizing the fake deposed Yemeni government’s parliament.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking at the virtual plenary of the the142nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU), the Secretary-General of Iran’s parliamentary delegation Mojtaba Rezakhah warned: “The parliament referred to by IPU is the one which is not Yemeni people’s choice.”

Rezakhah added: "This parliament has been formed without a legal quorum and against the principles of democracy and parliament, while the Yemeni legal parliament, which is based in Sana’a, has been formed in accordance with previous reports of legitimate parliament based on the people's vote."

The representative of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran stressed: "The Inter-Parliamentary Union should, in accordance with the principles governing the protection of parliaments and transparency, invite the members of the Yemeni Legislative Assembly, which was formed by popular vote many years before the current developments to participate in the parliament sessions."

Rezakhah also has said that the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran emphasizes the unity and integrity of Yemen.

The fugitive officials of the deposed Yemeni government are supported by the Al-Saud regime.

Saudi Arabia, with the support of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries, has launched a military offensive in Yemen since March 2015 and imposed a land, sea, and air blockade on the country.
