Iran in a letter to IPU, UN condemns crimes of Israel

Tehran (IP) - The Speaker of Parliament, in an official letter to the Speakers of the parliaments of Islamic countries and some parliaments of the world, the speakers and Secretaries-General of the Islamic, Asian and World Inter-Parliamentary Unions and Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations strongly condemned Israel's crimes in Palestine and the attack on worshipers and the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Iran PressIran news: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf 's letter stated that since Friday, May 7, 2021, the Israeli regime has severely beaten and injured a large number of Palestinian citizens, including women and children, who were praying and fasting in Al-Aqsa Mosque for worshiping God Almighty.

This action of the Israeli regime and the continuation of war crimes are in conflict with the inalienable principles of international law, human rights, and international humanitarian law. The right to peaceful gatherings, including religious observances, is one of the most obvious recognized rights under the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and other relevant international documents.

In addition, worship in the holy site of Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the basic rights of Palestinians and is an integral part of their right to freedom of expression and peaceful gatherings, which has been systematically and grossly violated by the Israeli regime.

Unfortunately, today the oppressed and defenseless people of Palestine are being brutally attacked in violation of the international system by the occupying Zionist regime, and this regime has violated the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to the highest possible level, and with complete impudence and complete disregard for international rules and regulations and insists on increasing oppression against the Palestinians.

The occupying regime carried out its criminal acts, including continuing the occupation operations in the historic neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, destruction and confiscation and racial cleansing, massive and illegal detentions, massacres and assassinations, continuous attacks on worshipers of Al-Aqsa Mosque, continued humanitarian siege of Gaza, extremely discriminatory policies in COVID pandemic and the ban on the distribution of vaccines, the occupation of the Palestinian territories for more than seven decades, the perpetuation of war crimes and the complete disregard for the basic principles of human rights continue in the light of the lack of proper response from international organizations and communities. This trend has led the regime to continue its widespread crimes with the assurance of impunity.

The Islamic Consultative Assembly deeply believes that the current situation and the deteriorating situation in Holy Quds and the desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered a threat to international peace and security which requires the parliaments of Islamic countries and the world, governments, international organizations, and international parliamentary assemblies should immediately investigate the critical situation in Al-Aqsa Mosque and take effective action to stop the crimes of the Zionists immediately.

Your Excellency and the Parliament of your country are expected to make every effort to end this systematic violation and widespread attack on the Palestinian people and civilians, and to provide effective support for the existing mechanisms, including the prosecution and condemnation of the perpetrators and those behind the Zionist regime's crimes.
