The Pakistani branch of the terrorist group of Daesh has issued a statement claiming responsibility for the suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad.

The suicide attack on the Shia mosque to wage sectarian division in the country and spill it over to other parts of the region. 

 

Driving the news:

Yesterday’s suicide explosion at a Shiia mosque in Islamabad killed 32 people and injured more than 160 others. Pakistani media have reported that 29 of the injured are in critical condition. 

 

Details:

  • The suicide bomber identified as a man named Saifullah Ansari.
  • two key facilitators of the operation were arrested last night.
  • The arrests was carried out following a heavy armed clash in Nowshera district. 
  • Two other suspects were detained during a nighttime raid in Peshawar.

 

What we're hearing:

Security officials of the Pakistani government stated that the scope of the investigation has been expanded and that action against suspects and networks linked to the attack is underway.

Pakistani police also reported that one police officer was killed during these operations, while five others, including intelligence personnel, were injured.

Investigations to identify other perpetrators and supporters of the terrorist attack are still ongoing.
