Why it matters
The event highlighted the growing role of women in shaping global justice narratives amid ongoing conflicts and shifting international power dynamics.
The big picture
The conference was held on the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, a central figure in the fight against terrorism in Western Asia. It brought together influential women from across Europe, Asia, Africa, and West Asia to exchange views on women’s responsibilities in confronting injustice worldwide.
State of play
The conference was jointly organized by the ICRO and the Women’s Commission of the Peace and Friendship Association.
More than 40 prominent and influential women attended the event from Germany, Algeria, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pakistan, Japan, Lebanon, and Nigeria.
On the sidelines of the conference, women recognized for their role during the 12-day imposed war were honored.
What she’s saying
Seyedeh Sedigheh Hejazi, head of the conference and a member of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, addressed the opening session, focusing on the complex transformations shaping today’s world.
She said recent developments, from the war on Gaza to the 12-day war against Iran, demonstrate the more overt entry of the system of domination, led by the United States, into global conflicts.
According to Hejazi, this system seeks to impose a new architecture of warfare within the international order to preserve its global dominance at any cost.
Between the lines
Citing remarks by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Hejazi described Iran’s dispute with the United States as an inherent confrontation between domination and resistance, portraying Martyr Soleimani as a symbol of standing up to global arrogance and a defender of the oppressed people of Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.
Zoom in
Hejazi emphasized that the conference provided a platform to discuss the role of intelligent, thoughtful, and active women in addressing global challenges.
She pointed to the unprecedented resistance of women in Gaza in the face of crimes committed by the Israeli occupation regime, saying their steadfastness has awakened global consciousness and drawn worldwide attention to the role of women.
Bottom line
Women, who constitute half of humanity and raise the other half, play a decisive and irreplaceable role in laying the groundwork for global justice, Hejazi concluded.
