Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in Bauchi State on Saturday night have celebrated the Gaza Ceasefire deal, an agreement that allows thousands of people returning to their demolished houses in Gaza strip, withdrawal of the Israeli genocidal forces and prisoners exchange.

Why it matters:
The agreement signed between the Zionist regime and the Palestinian resistance aims to halt the two-year-long war crimes and mass killings in Gaza, facilitate the return of hostages, and enable the entry of humanitarian aid convoys into the besieged Strip.

The big picture:
In Bauchi city, crowds gathered in an atmosphere of joy and solidarity, expressing unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. The event featured public lectures by Islamic clerics and academics who underscored unity and justice as essential for global peace.

What they are saying:
Sheikh Ahmad Yusuf Yashi, the representative of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky in Bauchi, called for greater unity between Muslims and Christians in Nigeria, emphasizing that enduring justice can only be achieved through mutual understanding and solidarity.

Professor Abdullahi Danladi, a senior member of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and special guest from Zaria, welcomed the ceasefire as a positive development but warned that the Zionist regime has consistently violated previous ceasefire agreements.

“Peace is always desirable, and every sane society seeks it,” Danladi said. “However, history shows the Zionist regime rarely honors its promises. Before the ink of previous agreements dried, they resumed bombardments against civilians. So while we celebrate, we remain cautious.”

He stressed that the ceasefire remains temporary because the core issues fueling the conflict are still unaddressed.

“As long as Palestine remains under occupation, there can be no genuine peace,” he added. “You cannot destroy people’s homes and lives, seize their land, and then claim to seek peace. The Western powers remain largely silent and complicit, allowing continued massacres. Unless Palestine is restored to its rightful owners, this injustice will persist.”
