Why it matters:
The session highlights the continued diplomatic impunity provided by the U.S. to the Zionist regime despite widespread international condemnation of its aggression and genocide in Gaza, therefore signaling the uselessness of such an international body.
The big picture:
The members of the UN Security Council stood together in an unexpected press conference on Wednesday local time and in a joint statement called on the Israeli regime to "cease the further expansion of its military operations in Gaza."
What they are saying:
UN Security Council members said they demand an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire as well as a significant increase in humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza. They also stressed that the Israeli regime must immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on the delivery of aid.
Inga Ashing, the CEO of Save the Children: "The Gaza famine is here, an engineered famine, a predicted famine, a manmade famine. As we speak, children in Gaza are systematically being starved to death. This is a deliberate policy. This is starvation as a method of war in its starkest terms."
Save the Children Executive Director reported: Food and bread have become the dream of Gaza's children. Emaciated and weak children in Gaza's clinics no longer even have the strength to speak or cry from pain. Right now, as we are here, children in Gaza are dying one after another from hunger. Famine in Gaza is a deliberate and engineered policy, and the Zionist regime is using severe hunger as a weapon of war.
Joyce Msuya, the assistant secretary-general for humanitarian affairs: "Virtually no one in Gaza is untouched by hunger. … Let us be clear: This famine is not a product of drought or some form of natural disaster. It’s a created catastrophe -- the result of a conflict that has caused massive civilian death, injury, destruction, and forced displacement."
