IRAN-U.S. NUCLEAR TALKS 2025

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced Sunday that the fourth round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, held in Oman with Muscat’s mediation, was more “incisive and serious” than previous rounds, with both sides reaching closer alignment on key issues.

Why it matters:

If the sanctions relief and nuclear commitments remain on the table, improved mutual understanding could lay the groundwork for progress, though trust issues persist, particularly due to inconsistencies in U.S. messaging.

What he’s saying:

Araghchi: “Compared to previous rounds, this was more detailed and less vague—we’ve moved beyond generalities.”

“Despite the difficulty of these talks, they were useful. We’ve achieved a better understanding of each other’s positions.”

“We agreed to continue negotiations. The timing and venue of the next session will be set by Oman’s Foreign Minister.”

“We raised concerns over contradictory U.S. statements. These mixed signals undermine trust. Iran remains consistent; we expect the same from the U.S.”

Key points:

  • Nuclear enrichment and sanctions relief remain central. Iran insists enrichment must continue, though temporary limits could be discussed for confidence-building.
  • Araghchi criticized the conflicting statements from the U.S., warning that if this inconsistency continues, Iran will respond in kind.
