Tehran (IP) - In a letter to the UN Secretary-General, a group of Iranian lawyers stated that the imposition of economic sanctions on Iran is a gross violation of human rights and a barrier to the health of millions of Iranians.

Iran Press/Iran News: A group of Iranian lawyers sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday, stating that "Given the widespread outbreak of the COVID-19 around the world, including Iran, and the urgent need for some pharmaceutical medical equipment and raw materials for the production of some health items in the country, the US action to impose economic sanctions on Iran and the prohibition of trade and drug exchange is a gross human rights violation."

"As a result of increasing US sanctions, there has been a shortage of vital drugs for people with certain diseases, especially chemotherapy drugs for cancer patients, patients with defective immune systems and hemophilia in Iran," the letter said.

Iran's lawyers have called on the UN Secretary-General to pursue the issue responsibly and refer it to the UN General Assembly and the Security Council to enable UN members to fulfill their obligations under the UN Charter and end US illegal sanctions against the Iranian nation.
